Letters needed:
Eagle Mountain potential rec area

The State of California is trying to acquire lands on and near the now-defunct Eagle Mountain resort near Yuba Gap for public recreational uses. Mountain bikers have used trails in the area for years. We need your help in keeping these trails available to bicyclists.

BACKGROUND: State Parks has funding to purchase approximately 1,500 acres near Eagle Mountain for a new recreational area. Currently, one of the major landowners in the area (PG&E) is not a willing seller, but this could change at any time. State agencies have planned an expanded Sno-Park for the area, but need the support of those of us who would use the area for summer recreation as well. Trails in the area are fantastic!

It is important that cyclists express our support for continued trail access in the area. You can do this by mailing the following letter to the addresses provided. Feel free to reword it. With your help, Eagle Mountain can continue to be a sweet destination for bikers seeking classic Sierra singletrack:

To whom it may concern:

As a mountain biker, I support efforts by the State of California to create a multi-use recreational area near Eagle Mountain near Yuba Gap.

As you may know, mountain bikers have used trails in the area for years. Cycling advocacy organizations are eager to partner with state land management agencies to create and maintain trails in the area through volunteer efforts. Historically, area bicycle groups have demonstrated an excellent record of trail work in the nearby Grouse Ridge and Donner Summit areas. Such efforts have help solve erosion problems and kept trails safe for all trail users.

Please support the creation of a public recreational area near Eagle Mountain. Mountain bikers and the public at large would enjoy considerable benefits from such an area.
Truly,
